Tata Indica & Indigo eCS production ends

Tata Motors is reported to have stopped the production of the Indica hatchback and Indigo eCS compact sedan.

A media report suggests that Tata has dispatched the last batch of these cars to dealerships as it prepares to completely phase them out. While these models will no longer be produced, Tata Motors will continue to provide the necessary service support and spare parts to owners.

According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Tata Motors sold 2,583 units of the Indica and 1,756 units of the Indigo eCS in FY 2017-18. The carmaker did not produce a single unit of the said models during the month of April 2018. This was partly due to the slow sales and increased demand for newer models like the Tiago and Nexon.

The Indica was launched in 1998 followed by the Indigo in 2002. In recent times, these models were primarily sold to fleet operators. Both cars use the same 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 69 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1,800-3,000 rpm, which is mated to a 5-speed transmission.
