Tata Motors: Head of Commercial Vehicles resigns

Ravindra Pisharody, Executive Director of Tata Motors' commercial vehicle business has stepped down from his position citing some personal reasons. He has also quit from other roles in the organization, including the Director of Tata Motors and associated companies.

Pisharody's exit from Tata Motors comes 10 years after he joined the automaker as Vice President, Sales & Marketing. He was promoted as the Executive Director of CV business in 2012. Pisharody is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata and has worked with Castrol Limited and Philips India before joining Tata Motors in 2009.

Tata Motors' commercial vehicle vertical is currently under huge pressure from competitors like Ashok Leyland and Eicher. For the FY 16-17, Tata Motors recorded a market share of 47% in the commercial vehicle space. This is the lowest market share figure ever recorded by the company. During the same period, Ashok Leyland has been increasing its sales numbers and has thus managed to successfully narrow the gap to Tata Motors in the past few years.
