Tata Motors working on new EV platform, long-range battery

Tata Motors is setting up a separate electric mobility business headed by Shailesh Chandra, which will oversee the development of a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform. The new architecture will underpin Tata's future electric cars. The company is also working on electric and hybrid commercial vehicles (CV).

Tata Motors is planning to develop a long-range battery. The proposed 320-volt battery pack is expected to provide faster acceleration and a maximum range of over 300 km on a single charge. It will also have fast charging capability. The current Tigor EV and a possible Tiago-based EV could use the new battery in the future. The company's latest Alfa and Omega platforms have also been designed with electric powertrains in mind.

Full electric or hybrid options are likely to be offered on light commercial vehicles (LCV) like the Iris, Magic, Ace and Super Ace. The company is also focusing on fuel cell, pure-electric, diesel hybrid, CNG hybrid and diesel-parallel hybrid buses.
