Tata Nano's maintenance costs is surprisingly high: Rs 20k in 1 year

Zest, Bolt, Hexa, Safari Dicor, Indigo etc. owners will face the same issues.

BHPian Nissan1180 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Our 2015 Nano Twist did not start and it was lying unused for over a month. A good garage named Mari Gaadi in Ahmedabad helped to restart the vehicle and take it to their workshop. The starter motor needed repairs. The owner is one of the few who still touch a Nano. Spares are impossible to get and the authorised service centres are not interested in repairing them.

The total cost of this repair along with some minor electrical works was Rs 5,000.

Service is a big concern for the Nano. While customers of new vehicles are treated well, the company is not interested to attend to its older models. Zest, Bolt, Hexa, Safari Dicor, Indigo etc. owners will face the same issues.

  • Total cost of maintaining this car in the last 1 year: Around Rs 20,000
  • Current market value: Rs 60,000 despite being in mint condition

I would be wary of ever purchasing a TML product in the future. Their value chain does not prioritise the customer. All TML product owners will face the same challenges when their cars are older and out of warranty.

At a more fundamental level, the failure of critical components like a starter motor signifies that this company does not do enough long-term testing of its components to identify the potential failure modes.
