Tata Nexon to get AMT on lower variants

Having launched the Nexon AMT in the top-spec XZA+ trim, Tata Motors is planning to launch the Nexon AMT in lower XZA and XMA variants.

According to a homologation document, Tata Motors is likely to introduce XZA and XMA variants equipped with the 6-speed AMT, powered by the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine. The diesel unit makes 108 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 260 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm. While, the ARAI certificate only mentions the diesel engine, Tata might also offer the 6-speed AMT on the petrol version. The AMT variants will get hill-assist with creep function and 3 driving modes - Eco, City and Sport.

In terms of equipment, the Nexon XZA will get most of the features from the XZA+, except for the PEPS smart key with push button start, front and rear fog lamps, DRLs, alloy wheels, rear wiper, washer and defogger, 60:40 split rear seat and front and rear centre armrests.

The XMA variant will be based on the mid-spec XM trim that comes with features like air-conditioning, power windows, electric ORVMs, rear parking sensors, Harman infotainment system with 4 speakers, AM/FM, USB, Aux-in, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity and steering-mounted audio, phone and voice controls.

In the sub-4 meter SUV segment, Ford offers a 6-speed automatic gearbox on the EcoSport petrol. Maruti has recently launched a 5-speed AMT on the Vitara Brezza compact SUV as well.
