Tata Q501 mid-size SUV to be launched by end of 2018

Tata Motors is working on a new mid-size SUV to take on the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur. Guenter Butschek, MD, Tata Motors has told the media that the mid-size SUV (codenamed Q501) will be launched by the end of 2018.

The Q501 is believed to be based on Land Rover’s L550 platform tweaked to suit this specific model. Test mules of the upcoming mid-size SUV have been spotted with a Land Rover Discover Sport body. It will have a seating capacity of five. Tata is also developing a 7-seater SUV (codenamed Q502) based on the same platform, which will be launched in 2019.

While Tata Motors hasn’t confirmed the powertrains for the new SUVs, reports suggest that it might use a detuned version of the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine from the Jeep Compass.
