Tata's statement on reports of Hexa's discontinuation

Earlier this month, there were reports suggesting that Tata Motors was likely to phase out the Hexa in 2020. Now, Tata Motors has released a statement saying that reports of Hexa's discontinuation are purely speculative and the carmaker has not made any official statement about the same.

The statement reads:

"Hexa is a product we are extremely proud of as it encapsulated the cream of our Engineering prowess and Styling skills. The love and passion of Hexa owners towards the car is invaluable for us, as it endorses the sheer multifaceted performance of the car. The recent articles on the discontinuation of the product are purely speculative and no official statement on the same has been issued by Tata Motors. However, we would like to clarify that each and every Hexa customer is important to us and we are firmly looking at expanding the HEXA brotherhood."

According to media reports, the Hexa was likely to be replaced by the Buzzard - a 7-seat version of the Harrier in 2020, when BS-VI emission norms are scheduled to be implemented. It was reported that the Hexa's 2.2-litre diesel engine would not be updated to meet BS-VI norms for passenger vehicles. However, it would be upgraded to comply with BS-VI norms for commercial vehicles that are less stringent and would therefore be offered in commercial vehicles.

On the other hand , the Buzzard is likely to be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel that produces 170 BHP and 350 Nm of torque.
