Tearing down a Maruti Suzuki LED fog lamp & converting it to warm white

Before taking apart this LED fog lamp, I did the input power and lux testing as well.

BHPian bobbyblr recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Part-1: Testing

I bought an LED fog lamp part 35500M85S01 from Maruti Suzuki for two reasons:

  • What kind of LED is used and what ICs are used for the constant current regulation?
  • Can I convert it to warm white from cool white? This will be covered in part 3.

Before the removal of this LED fog lamp, I had done the input power & lux testing. The LED fog lamp is rated at 5.8W at 13.5V input voltage as per the markings on it.

Here we can also see a marking "AL" in stylized letters. Which is actually AL-Automotive Lighting, a Marelli Automotive Lighting company (50-50 joint venture between the Italian firm Magneti Marelli and the German firm Robert Bosch GmbH) has manufactured this LED fog lamp.

Below is the input power consumed for different input voltages and the starting voltage of this LED fog lamp is around 6V to 7V.

Input current measured using a clamp meter at 13.5V input voltage.

Below are the Lux measurements at approximately 1 meter (3 feet), which is 5197 lux and the beam pattern at approximately 3 meters, which is too wide but very narrow in height.
