Tesla CEO confirms pickup truck plans

In a Twitter exchange on December 26, 2017, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that the company is planning to add an all-electric pickup truck to its model line-up. The new pickup will be manufactured after the Model Y crossover, which is rumoured to be going into production in 2019-20.

While most details of the pickup truck are not known right now, Musk revealed that it will be similar in size to the Ford F150. The F150 has been on sale since 1948 and currently in its thirteenth-generation.

Musk has also tweeted that the core design and engineering elements of the truck have been in his mind since the last 5 years and he was looking forward to building the vehicle. He has also revealed that he would like to add a new feature, which he considers game-changing, in the truck.

At present, Tesla produces 3 cars - the Model S, Model X and Model 3. It has revealed plans to manufacture an electric truck called the Semi as well as a sports car called the Roadster.
