Toyota HiAce could cost upwards of Rs. 40 lakh

Japanese carmaker Toyota displayed the HiAce van in India at the 2014 Auto Expo and then again at the 2015 SIAM Bus and Special Vehicle Show. Now the company has revealed that it will launch the vehicle in mid-2015.

The HiAce will be imported from Japan as a CBU, which means that it will attract a 100% import duty. The Thai-built HiAce costs Rs. 20-25 lakh in Thailand. So in India, the vehicle is likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 40 lakh - Rs. 50 lakh.

The HiAce, which has a 10-seater interior layout, will be aimed at the premium transport segment. To start with, customers will be able to register the HiAce as a commercial vehicle only. Toyota is targeting fleet operators with the vehicle.

In India, the HiAce will be powered by a 2,982 cc, D-4D diesel engine developing 134 bhp @ 3400 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1200-2400 rpm. The vehicle will come with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The HiAce is expected to come with a long list of features including a rear view camera, 2 airbags and ABS.
