Toyota Kirloskar Motors launches Innova Chrome Edition

Toyota has managed to put 400,000 examples of the Innova on Indian roads since 2005, the year in which the MPV was first launched in the country. To commemorate this occasion, Toyota has come up with a chrome kit for the India-spec Innova. The chrome kit will be sold as an accessory pack at Toyota dealers across the country, and is priced at 31,000 rupees.

This kit is designed for the GX variant of the Innova diesel and petrol models. The Innova GX Diesel is priced at 15.5 lakh rupees, on-road Bangalore. Some elements of the chrome accessory kit can also be fitted to the top-end VX variants of the Innova. The Chrome Edition of the Innova seems to be playing on the fact that many Indian car buyers love plenty of chrome elements on their cars.

This is said to be a major reason as to why many car makers offer chrome inserts on their offerings sold in India. Such chrome trims are usually absent in the same cars sold abroad, thus making chrome additions a distinct feature specific to the Indian car market in most cases.

Here are the various features added to the Innova GX, by means of the Chrome Edition accessory pack,

  • Chrome garnish on front grille
  • Chrome Wheel Arch Moulding
  • Chrome door handle
  • Bumper corner protector with chrome insert
  • Hatch lid with chrome tipping
  • Chromed muffler cutter
  • Chrome surround for turn indicator
  • Chrome inserts on wing mirrors

The Innova sold in India is built on the IMV platform, the same platform that underpins the Fortuner SUV. The Innova comes with two engine options, a 2.5 liter D-4D turbo diesel engine outputting 102 PS-200 Nm, and a 2 liter petrol engine good for 132 PS-181 Nm. Both engines get 5 speed manual gearboxes with a rear wheel drive layout as standard.

The Innova is available in 7 seat and 8 seat variants. In the 7 seat options, the MPV gets 4 captain seats and a 3 seat rear bench while the 8 seat option replaces the middle row of captain seats with a 3 seat bench. The top end versions of the Innova come with ABS+EBD and twin airbags as standard safety equipment.
