Fifth-gen Toyota Supra to debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Toyota has announced that it will showcase the prototype version of the fifth-generation Supra at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is scheduled to be held from July 12-15, 2018. The sports car is expected to be displayed in the colours of the company's motorsports team - Toyota Gazoo Racing and will participate in the hill climb.

The company announced the fifth-generation Supra after an absence of 20 years since the last car. The Supra gets a long bonnet, a short boot and a tapering roofline that meets the lip spoiler at the rear. The car's platform has been co-developed by Toyota and BMW. The vehicle will have a front-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration. The engine will be an inline-six cylinder unit.

As the car being showcased is the prototype version, the exact details about the engine and transmission have not yet been revealed. The production-spec Supra is scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2019.

At the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota showcased the GR Supra Racing Concept, which marked the return of the Supra nameplate. The car had composite bodywork, a stripped out interior, Michelin track tires and a central exhaust at the rear. It also had a lowered suspension using Toyota OEM parts, BBS centre-lock racing wheels, Brembo racing calipers and a roll cage with a fire extinguisher. This car will also be displayed alongside the Supra at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
