Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder unveiled; bookings open

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq.

Toyota has taken the wraps off its new mid-size SUV called the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Bookings are now open and the prices will be announced next month.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be positioned above the upcoming Urban Cruiser facelift. The SUV features a split headlamp setup which has become quite popular in recent times. It has a slim grille with sleek LED DRLs on either side, while the full-LED headlamps are positioned lower down. At the rear, the Hyryder gets slim C-shaped tail lamps with the Toyota logo in the centre.

The Toyota Hyryder gets a dual-tone interior with a leather-wrapped dashboard. It is equipped with features like automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display along with connected car tech. The safety features offered on the Hyryder include 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP, hill-hold assist and hill descent control.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the first SUV in its segment with a strong hybrid powertrain. It uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 91 BHP and 122 Nm. The ICE is paired with an electric motor that has an output of 78 BHP and 141 Nm.

The car comes with a 177.6 V lithium-ion battery pack which offers an all-electric range of up to 25 km. According to Toyota, the SUV offers overall fuel efficiency of 24-25 km/l.

Besides the efficient strong hybrid, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder come with a Maruti Suzuki-sourced 1.5-litre K-Series mild-hybrid powertrain. It makes 103 BHP and 137 Nm. This motor is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The carmaker is offering a standard warranty of 3-year / 1,00,000 km and an 8-year / 1,60,000 km battery warranty on the hybrid version.
