Toyota's Bidadi plant achieves 100% carbon neutrality

Toyota claims to have offset 16,635.54 tons of carbon during April - September 2021 period.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has achieved 100% carbon neutrality from June 2021. Toyota's Bidadi factory and 8 on-site supplier companies are now running on renewable energy. As a result, the company claims to have offset 16,635.54 tons of carbon during April - September 2021 period.

TKM has installed roof-top solar power plants and ground mount facilities at the Bidadi factory, with a combined capacity of 8.2 MW. The company sources additional energy from an 18 MW solar park located outside the firm.

Globally, Toyota aims to achieve net-zero CO2 from its products across life cycles and manufacturing by 2035. In 2015, Toyota had announced the "Toyota Environment Challenge 2050", with the aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, however, the timeline was later revised.

Mercedes-Benz India has also set a target of December 2022 to become carbon neutral.
