Have a strange problem related to the e-challan system. A car we recently purchased used has a "no parking" violation that shows in "Taken to Court" status. There is no amount listed against it and it's from over 2 years ago. Funnily enough, the previous owner has paid challans issued after that one.
I alerted the used car dealer about this issue and he said he would check. Meanwhile I got another challan, this time a No-entry fine of 500/- since the lane in which I reside has recently and rather arbitrarily been declared a one-way (after being a partial one-way in the opposite direction for a while, which nobody followed!) In any case, I was able to pay that one but noticed that the old challan was still unresolved.
Noticed one strange thing: the old owner's mobile number listed in full on the e-challan uploaded to the e-challan website (it's masked elsewhere). So just called him, pleasantly introduced myself and explained the issue. He told me he'd already been informed by the used-car dealer and has been wracking his brain on how to get this settled in the system since there is no payment link anywhere. I told him to check his SMSes for one from Lok Adalat which would give him a link to the PDF of his summons to court. He claimed that he hadn't received any such SMS but that he would check. We both promised we would find out ways to close this issue and ended our call!
So any ideas?
Here's what BHPian lamborghini had to say in this matter:
I had the same issue on my car, which I later sold and was able to transfer registration also.
No date, no option to pay the fine, nothing.Been 2-3 years and still no update from current owner and to me.
Problem was also that the photo uploaded may have been taken by a non-police (i.e. a fellow citizen) and that was just a close up of my number plate with no photo showing that it was incorrectly/illegally parked so maybe they couldn't issue a proper challan?
Here's an update shared by BHPian noopster:
Well, the new RC arrived today in our name so I'm assuming the problem is fixed! Weird thing is that the challan still shows outstanding in the echallan system. Hoping it won't cause issues going forward.
If it helps, this was the same section under which my car was challaned and the previous owner swears it was the usual place he parks and so do many others!
