Uber Bus service launched in Cairo, Egypt

Uber has introduced a bus service in Cairo, Egypt. Users can book their seats in an air-conditioned bus over 2 pre-determined routes.

To travel using the Uber Bus, users must have the latest version of the Uber smartphone app. They have to enter the destination, select the bus option and review the fare. Once requested, there could be a wait of up to 5 minutes to see the trip details. The app will match the user with other people using the bus in the same direction. Bus details will be provided on the app and users can track their bus as it makes its way to the predetermined stop. The bus will wait a maximum of 2 minutes before leaving the stop.

Users will have to either pay cash to the driver or via the app after scanning the barcode before beginning the ride. The app will notify users when to get off the bus and provide walking directions to the destination from the stop.

The initial rollout will start by covering the areas of Nasr City, Heliopolis, Greater Downtown, and Mohandeseen, and will expand across Cairo in upcoming months.

Uber has been testing its bus service since the last 2 months on two routes plying from Higaz Square to Ahmed Oraby and 9th District water station to Tahrir Street. The buses ran 5 days a week from Sunday through Thursday from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm.
