Uber to phase out ICE vehicles from its fleet by 2030

Uber is said to be aiming to double its EV fleet to 50,000 vehicles by next year.

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, has stated that by 2030, the company plans to have an all-electric fleet. The company is targeting to be fully electric in USA, Canada & Europe.

The CEO further added that drivers who don't have an EV will not be allowed on the platform. Even current drivers with IC-engine powered vehicles will have to shift to EVs if they wish to be on the platform. Having said that, Uber will incentivise its drivers to transition to EVs and spend $800 million to help offset the cost for its drivers.

Uber is offering drivers a dollar for every EV trip they make while also offering discounts on charging. The ride-sharing platform will also be partnering with Hertz to allow drivers to rent Teslas on a weekly or monthly basis.

The platform currently offers the Comfort Electric option, but at a premium. Khosrowshashi believes that with more electric cars in the fleet, the waiting time will reduce, subsequently bringing down the price as well.

The CEO stated that while there is a lot of work to do to meet the 2030 goal, the company seems to be on the right track. Uber is said to be aiming to double its EV fleet to 50,000 vehicles by next year.
