Uber to set up engineering centre in Bengaluru

Uber is in the process of setting up an engineering centre in Bengaluru, which will enable it to provide customized solutions for India. This will be the company's first such centre in the country.

Uber will be hiring software engineers and products managers, who will come together to form the company's "India growth product engineering team". This team will work with Uber's on-ground operations teams and its product engineering team in San Francisco. It will focus 100% on India and will be responsible for all product and engineering projects that are likely to help the company expand its business in India.

At present, Uber has engineering teams that travel to India. After the India growth product engineering team is established, the teams are expected to align frequently.

Earlier this year, Uber announced that it was planning to invest $1 billion in India. The company is also investing $50 million in Hyderabad over the next five years. It is taking these steps to expand its business in India, in order to take on rivals such as Ola.

Uber's other engineering centres are located in San Francisco, Amsterdam, Sofia (Bulgaria), Aarhus (Denmark) and Vilnius (Lithuania). The company employs more than 4,000 people globally.
