Updated Toyota Camry launched in India

Toyota has updated its D-segment luxury sedan - the Camry; priced at Rs. 28.80 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 31.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the hybrid variant.

The Camry receives a minor external as well as internal makeover, but Toyota have made no mechanical changes to the car. The powertrains and transmissions remain unchanged as well.

The face of the Camry has updates like a new front grill, new headlamps, a redesigned front air-dam, fog lamps and front bumper. Oodles of chrome have been added to live up to its premium appeal. The hybrid variant also gets LED headlamps with auto levelling, while the petrol makes do with auto HID headlamps with auto leveling. The hybrid comes with 15-spoke 17" wheels, while the petrol is available with 10-spoke 16" wheels. Both variants get new LED brake lights. Changes to the rear are a lot more subtle than the front.

Prominent changes to the interiors include a new steering wheel with mounted controls, a new instrument cluster with blue back lighting and a 4.2" multi information display unit. A new 6.1" infotainment screen, revised central console switches and a new-wood trim finish are among the other changes to the interiors.

A welcome addition to the updated versions is that 7 airbags come in as standard equipment (including a driver knee airbag). ABS, VCS, ECB and Hill Start Assist continue to be provided as standard features as well.

The Camry is currently the only rival to the Skoda Superb in its segment, which outsells the Camry in a 3:1 ratio. However, it is also worth noting that the Superb offers a petrol and a diesel version, while the camry offers a total of two variants - a petrol automatic and a hybrid automatic.
