Vehicle retail sales down by 2.70% in November 2021

The passenger vehicle segment continues to face the brunt of the semiconductor shortage.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales were down by 2.70% in November 2021, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of November 2021 stood at 18,17,600 units, compared to 18,68,068 units in November 2020. However, compared to November 2019, when 22,65,740 units were sold, total vehicle retails have fallen by 19.78%.

Vehicle retail sales remained in the negative despite the Diwali and marriage season. The passenger vehicle segment continues to face the brunt of the semiconductor shortage. Customers could shy away from making a purchase due to the extended waiting periods.

Tractor sales dropped by 9.07% from 50,180 units in November 2020 to 45,629 units.

Two-wheeler sales were down 0.75% to 14,33,855 units from 14,44,762 units in November 2020.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 66.85% in November 2021. 40,493 units were sold compared to 24,269 units in November 2020.

Passenger vehicle sales decreased by 19.44% compared to the previous year. 2,40,234 units were sold last month compared to 2,98,213 units in November 2020.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 13.32%. 57,389 units were sold in November 2021 compared to 50,644 units in the previous year.
