The CNG version will be a good alternative for those who would find the price of petrol too high for their liking.

A video of the upcoming CNG variant of the Tata Tiago hatchback has surfaced online. The video shows the Tiago finished in red without any camouflage, sporting CNG stickers on its windshields.

The Tiago CNG is based on the Tiago facelift that was launched in January 2020. It has a tri-arrow grille with a thick chrome border running along the lower edge and under the headlamps and LED tail lights.

The Tiago CNG is expected to be mechanically identical to its petrol-powered sibling. The Tiago petrol is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 85 BHP and 113 Nm. These figures are expected to be slightly lower when the car runs on CNG. The petrol version is offered with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. However, it is unclear which transmission options the CNG version will get.

The Tata Tiago diesel was discontinued in 2020 when the BS6 emission norms were introduced in India. Since then the car has been available with a petrol engine only. The CNG version will be a good alternative for those who would find the price of petrol too high for their liking. In Delhi, CNG is priced at Rs. 43.40 per kg, while petrol costs Rs. 91.80 per litre. The Tiago CNG is also expected to return better efficiency figures compared to the petrol, making it considerably cheaper to run.

On the downside, the Tiago CNG will have lesser boot space than the petrol due to the presence of a factory-fitted CNG tank.
