Vijay Mallya resigns as Force India director

Vijay Mallya has stepped down as the director of Force India. However, he will continue his role as the team principal of the F1 team. His son, Siddarth Mallya has been appointed as the new director.

Vijay Mallya told the media that he had no compulsion to resign and that he wished to focus on his ongoing legal issues, so that the team remains unaffected. Mallya is accused of a multi-crore loan fraud and is being pursued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is also facing money laundering charges that are being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). An extradition case has been filed against him in a London court.

There had been rumours suggesting that the Force India F1 team was up for sale. However, Mallya has dismissed these claims. He also denied rumours of Mercedes extending cooperation with Force India to create a junior team.
