Visiting the annual Model-building exhibition in Goes, Netherlands

As you will see just about all variants of model building are shown here. From elaborate RC trucks to trains, boats, aeroplanes and a lot of Lego building too!

BHPian Jeroen recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

This weekend saw the annual Modelbuilding exhibition in Goes, the Netherlands. There are 3-4 of these modelbuilding exhibitions per year. I don't always go, but I decided to go this time as I also wanted to test and familiarize myself with my new camera, Sony Cybershot DSC RX100 VII (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadge...ra-thread.html)

This is an indoor event and although all reviews of this little camera are great, one weakness is its performance under low light conditions. So I thought I could combine a bit of looking at models and familiarise myself with my new camera some more.

Goes is about an hour 15 minutes drive. So I took my Jaguar. All motorway driving.

Most of the participants are clubs. And some professional organisations offering special services and or products for the model-building community.

This is a BIG event hall, so there is plenty of room for some BIG lay outs as you will see.

I am always fascinated with these hydraulic mobile cranes, the real ones are very imposing too.

Lots of RC diggers, trucks, tractors etc.

Lovely model, working and controlled remotely.

There were several RC plane clubs too. They had even a small section cordoned off, where they flew some of their models

Have a close look at this, all made out of paper!!!

More building, digging, and transporting stuff by remote control

There are always some specific "army" groups/clubs. These guys build their (mostly RC) models at a large scale

They (claim to) have a sense of humour too

Some of these RC tanks are massive! They have build in engine and track sounds. Cool! Every couple of hours these guys put about 15-20 of their models on the floor and drive around in a big column all over the exhibition.

Some very large train displays. Some of their train control are on par with real world train control systems.

Some gorgeous train lay-outs

As I mentioned, some vendors sell various model building accessories and tools. If you have followed my "engine model-making thread" you will recognize this brand. My first Mini Mill was from this brand. Sutripta was not impressed and he was right.

You might have spotted this model in one of my other threads on model building. It is a well-known self build and RC model of the Happy Hunter. I actually spend a few weeks on her as third engineer!

They had this massive bassin to demonstrate the RC boats!

The RC trawler fleet

Some people were displaying these marvellous painted figures

These days these model building exhibitions bring out a fair amount of Lego-related stuff. It's probably a good idea. Some of this Lego building is out of this world. It also ensures these exhibitions pull a much wider audience. Unfortunately, the traditional world of model buildings is for (white?) old guys. As you can see, this exhibition draws whole (young) families and everybody is having a great time

If you thought Lego is for kids, think again!
