Speaking to a media outlet, Wassym Bensaid, Chief Software Officer at Rivian, stated that the best way to interact with your car is through voice instead of physical buttons.
Bensaid went on to state that he has been driving around in a vehicle with an AI-powered voice assistant every week and that it's a fantastic environment. He mentioned how buttons in a car are an "anomaly." "It’s a bug. It’s not a feature. Ideally, you would want to interact with your car through voice. The problem today is that most voice assistants are just broken."
The Rivian chief went on to state, "I think the car is actually a fantastic environment for AI. The final north star I have is having voice [controls] become the primary means of interaction with the vehicle. The reality is that the vehicle is so feature-rich, that even if we do a fantastic job in the UI, there will always be prioritization that we need to do in terms of having things one or two menus behind."
Bensaid believes that AI-powered voice controls will be able to handle complex requests. He even mentioned how Rivian's goal is to take every possible touchscreen control and make it available by voice.
