Volkswagen Taigun launched at Rs. 10.50 lakh

The VW Taigun shares its platform with the Skoda Kushaq and competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming MG Astor.

Volkswagen has launched the Taigun at a starting price of Rs. 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Taigun is based on the MQB A0-IN platform that is shared with the Skoda Kushaq. The car measures 4,221 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, 1,612 mm in height, and its wheelbase is 2,651 mm.

In terms of styling, the car looks like a typical Volkswagen SUV with clean and crisp lines. The front fascia looks like a compact version of the Tiguan, while the rear features LED tail lights with an LED light bar in between.

On the inside, the Taigun gets a flat-bottom steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. The centre console houses a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Taigun engines & transmissions:

The car is available with the choice of two turbo-petrol engines. These include a 1.0-litre TSI that makes 113 BHP @ 5,000-5,500 rpm and 178 Nm @ 1,750-4,500 rpm as well as a 1.5-litre TSI that put out 148 BHP @ 5,000-6,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,600-3,500 rpm. This engine comes with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) and idle start/stop.

The 1.0L engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the latter gets a 7-speed DSG option. A 6-speed manual gearbox is available as standard with both engines.

The ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures for the 1.0L engine are 18.10 km/l (MT) and 16.44 km/l (AT). The 1.5L engine is said to deliver a mileage of 18.47 km/l (MT) and 17.88 km/l (AT).
