Volvo Cars report best-ever first half year sales in 2021

The increase in global sales is said to have been driven by rising demand in markets like China, USA and Europe.

Volvo Cars have announced its global sales figures for the first six months of 2021. The Swedish carmaker is said to have registered its strongest first-half sales this year, with 3,80,757 units sold globally. The month of June alone registered an 11 percent growth with 68,224 units of sales.

The increase in global sales is said to have been driven by rising demand in markets like China, the USA and Europe, each of which is said to have registered double-digit growth compared to the same period last year.

Volvo's Recharge lineup, with a fully-electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain, accounted for 24.6 percent of the total cars sold globally during the first six months. Volvo states that the share of its Recharge models increased by nearly 150 percent compared to last year.

Europe continued to be the largest market for Volvo cars, accounting for 1,66,822 units from its total sales figure. Sales of Volvo in the European market is said to have registered a 35.4 percent growth compared to last year. The strong performance is said to have been mainly led by high demand in the UK.

Sales of Volvo cars in China also witnessed a 44.9 percent growth, registering 95,252 units. Sales in the month of June stood at 16,680 units; up by 10.4 percent compared to June 2020.

Volvo cars registered 63,754 units of sales in the first six months of 2021 in the USA, which translates to a 47.4 percent growth compared to the previous year. The XC60, XC90, and XC40 continued to bring in the highest volume of sales in the region.
