Volvo EX30 entry-level EV globally unveiled

Volvo also stated that a cross-country version of the EX30 EV will arrive at a slightly later stage.

Volvo has taken the wraps off its all-new entry-level electric vehicle, the EX30.

The Volvo EX30 might be the smallest offering in the brand's vehicle lineup, but Volvo claims it is their fastest production car yet. The EX30 is also the brand's cheapest offering, priced at $36,145.

The Volvo EX30 borrows design cues from its larger EX90 EV sibling. This includes pronounced wheel arches, the closed-off grille at the front and the 'Thor's Hammer' headlights. The EX30 also gets aerodynamic alloys ranging from 18-20 inches. The Volvo EV uses Geely's SEA platform and measures 4,234 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width and 1,552 mm in height.

Inside, the EX30 carries forward the brand's traditional design language. The dashboard gets a 12.3-inch vertically-mounted infotainment unit running Google-based OS & compatible with both Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. The dash also gets a soundbar running across its entire width. The steering comes with touch-sensitive controls, while the remaining cabin continues the minimalistic look.

In terms of powertrains, the EX30 comes with either a base 'Single Motor Extended Range' variant. It comes with a single electric motor on the rear axle, producing 268 BHP and 343 Nm. The base version comes with a 69 kWh battery pack offering 442 km (275 miles) as per the EPA test cycle. There is also a more powerful dual-motor performance variant, offering 422 BHP and 542 Nm of power output. This variant offers 426 km (265 miles) of range on a single charge. Volvo also claims the performance variant is capable of accelerating the EX30 from 0 - 98 km/h (0-60 mph) in 3.4 seconds.

Deliveries of the Volvo EX30 in the US market will begin in 2024. Volvo also stated that a cross-country version of the EX30 EV will arrive at a slightly later stage.
