Volvo India lists XC40 on its website. Launch by mid-2018

Having launched the 2017 XC60 in India, Volvo now seems to be gearing up to introduce the new XC40 in the country. The XC40 will be launched by mid-2018 and has already been listed on Volvo India’s website.

Unlike the new XC60, the XC40 is based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). It is the smallest SUV in Volvo’s XC range. The styling takes inspiration from the 40 Series concepts that were first showcased in May 2016. The SUV features an upright front grille similar to the new XC60 and LED headlights with DRLs shaped like Thor’s hammer. Its compact proportions, raised ride height and short overhangs are evident when viewed in side profile. At the rear, the XC40 gets a raked rear windshield and an integrated roof spoiler. It gets a dual-tone rear bumper with twin chrome exhausts and blacked-out roof along with familiar L-shaped LED tail lights.

The interior of the XC40 is almost identical to the larger SUVs in the range. It gets a similarly shaped three-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument panel. The centre console houses a large, vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment system and vertical air-conditioning vents with chrome trim.

According to a media report, in India, the XC40 will be offered with a choice of a diesel and a turbocharged petrol engine. The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel produces 188 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit makes 247 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm @ 1,800-4,800 rpm. Both engines will be offered with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The diesel version will come in two trim levels - Momentum and Inscription, while the petrol version will come in R-Design trim. The XC40 will come loaded with safety features like ABS with EBD, airbags, radar-based safety systems including city safety, pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, various collision mitigation systems and blind sport information system (BLIS). The 'First Edition' variants will be offered with features like active headlights, power tail gate and Harman audio system to name a few.

It has been reported that the XC40 will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and will compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA in the Indian market.
