Volvo XC90 subjected to recall catches fire

A 2016 Volvo XC90 that is said to have run around 52,000 km caught fire in Gujarat. It is claimed that while the car was being driven, the engine warning light flashed. The driver decided to stop the car to inspect the issue. Before the issue could be checked, the car's engine bay caught fire.

In July 2019, we had reported that Volvo had recalled 5,07,000 cars globally due to a risk of fire in the engine bay. All the affected cars were built between 2014 and 2019 and are powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. The XC90 was also one of the affected models. It is said that the plastic engine intake manifold in the engine bay could melt and ignite a fire. The symptoms could include an odour which is not usually present while driving a car, engine interruption, illumination of the engine warning light, and loss of power.

The owner of this XC90 claims that his car was not recalled.
