Volvo's first all-electric car to be based on Concept 40.2

According to media reports, the first all-electric Volvo will be hatchback based on the Concept 40.2, which was part of the 40 series concept cars that the company had displayed in May 2016. The car is expected to be powered only by batteries and electric motors and is expected to be available by 2019.

The Concept 40.1 was later revealed as the XC40. Just like the XC40, the hatchback is expected to be based on Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform and not very different from the Concept 40.2.

The Concept 40.2 featured an upright grille flanked by the LED headlights and 'Thor's hammer' DRLs, a tall stance with kinks on the doors, blacked out A and B-pillars and C-shaped tail lights like the XC40.

While the concept offered a battery range of 349 km, Volvo is reportedly targeting a range of 499 km on a single charge. According to a media report, Volvo has confirmed that the car will feature modular batteries for better cost efficiency across the model line-up.

Earlier this month, Volvo revealed that it plans to bring only electric vehicles to India from 2019. The hatchback based on the Concept 40.2 could be its first all-electric car to go on sale in the country.
