VW Group & others to miss 2018 Auto Expo

The VW Group has said that it will not participate in the 14th Auto Expo, which is scheduled to be held in Greater Noida in February 2018. The companies in the group include Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Skoda and Volkswagen. Italian motorcycle manufacturer - Ducati is also a part of the group.

While the company claims it to be a part of its strategy and hopes to return to the show in 2020, it is reported that the large investment required for participation has been a deterrent and prompted it to stay away from the 2018 edition of the Motor Show. The Volkswagen Automotive Group is currently on a spree to cut down expenditure across global operations, after it suffered huge losses due to the infamous dieselgate emission scandal in the last couple of years.

General Motors, which recently announced its exit from the Indian market, has also decided to pull out of the show. There are rumours that other manufacturers such as Ford and Nissan are also evaluating an absence from the country's biggest motoring exhibition. Two-wheeler majors - Bajaj Auto and Royal Enfield are also expected to give the Auto Expo a miss.

While existing players are pulling out of the Expo, newcomers such as Kia, Peugeot and SAIC are expected to make an appearance at the show.
