Yamaha R7 & MT-09 teased ahead of India launch

The Yamaha R7 and MT-09 will be imported as completely built units (CBUs).

The launch of the 2022 Yamaha R7 and MT-09 could be just around the corner, as teasers of the bikes have now surfaced on Yamaha India’s official website.

The Yamaha R7 is a fully-faired sports bike that is powered by a 689cc, twin-cylinder engine that makes 72 BHP and 67 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

The R7 rides on adjustable KYB upside-down forks and a rear mono-shock, while braking is handled by dual 298 mm discs at the front and a 245 mm disc at the rear.

The MT-09 is a naked streetfighter that uses an 890cc, inline 3-cylinder engine. It produces 117 BHP and 93 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Yamaha R7 and MT-09 will be imported as completely built units (CBUs). While the former will go up against the Honda CBR650R and Kawasaki Ninja 650, the MT-09 competes with the Kawasaki Z900 and the Triumph Street Triple RS.
