It looks like Maruti might launch a new version of the Celerio sometime in the near future. A recent spy image indicates that a pseudo SUV based on the Celerio hatchback could be in the offing.

The car was snapped during a promo shoot but sadly this is the only image that is available at the moment. Apart from the bright orange paint job, there are a few design details that really stand out. Maruti seems to have given the Celerio a matte black body kit consisting of a black bumper with a silver scuff plate and integrated reflectors, black wheel arch cladding and black alloy wheels. Besides this, it is difficult to ascertain if the "Cross" variant gets revised suspension with a raised ride height.

Also, it will be too early to speculate on the engine that will be offered on the Celerio Cross. That said, Maruti would most likely use the same 998cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that powers the hatchback. In the standard Celerio it produces 67 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm and is paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual transmission.

There has been no official word from Maruti about such a variant of the Celerio.
