Chinese bicycle sharing service Ofo has entered the Indian market. Ofo offers a ‘non-docking’, bicycle sharing platform, operated using an online mobile app. Initially, the service will be available in Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Indore. It has been reported that the company plans to expand its operations to other cities including Delhi, Coimbatore and Pune.

This comes at a time when established players like Ola and Zoomcar are running pilot programs in various cities of the country. Ola recently announced Ola Pedal – a bicycle sharing service which is available in specific areas of multiple cities in India. The service offers last mile connectivity at townships, educational campuses and tech parks.

Zoomcar already has over 500 cycles operational in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Kolkata as part of their PEDL service. The custom designed PEDL cycles use lightweight aluminium alloy frames and come with features like drum brakes, anti-slip chains, airless tyres and smart locks.
