Default loss in bass

hi guys
i recently installed a pio 4850 hu and am happy with the sound it is good but i feel a loss in bass because when i used to run it in my cassette player it was way much. MY speakers are jbl cs 496 rear and gto 506 front.

From what i gather, you feel you had more bass with your earlier casette based HU and after putting your 4850 you feel that you have low bass.
This sounds a little strange. I would put it down to a bad installation.

To be sure, the rear speakers are wired out of phase. Here's a simple test:-

Reverse the wires on ONE speaker only (Connect the + into the - and vice versa)
Remember on ONE speaker, left or right. And then sit and listen to your music in the car again. If the bass is back, your speakers were out of phase.

And if the sound does improve, you need to clobber your installer over the head for...

1. getting such a simple thing wrong.

2. not being able to realize that it was wrong after the install was done. I assume he must have atleast heard it once after he was through.

Kooldude,

If it isnt a problem with the phase, how about just turning up the Bass setting on your HU ?

Tried switching off the HPF, LPF etc...?
Check with different EQ settings.
Turned LOUD on?
See if all your speakers are working. Did your installer cut any speaker wires or damage any speakers accidenatlly?

Hey guys,

As kooldude says, we had stopped by on our way back from the alibaug meet to see if we could figure out what was causing the "loss in bass" problem.

There was no LPF on his HU, just a HPF, which was off.

His head unit had +/- settings for freqs like 40Hz, 60Hz, 85Hz, 120Hz, BUT the weird thing was that if you increased one to +3 all would increase to +3 so dont know if that was just some pioneer tactic, or i was doing somethign wrong.

Personally i felt that the bass was sufficient for a HU + 4spkr setup, but i guess kooldude feels it is less since he has moved from an alpine HU to a pioneer which might not have the same punch and low down refinement as the alpine ??

If alls fine, then, maybe he needs to check out similar setups with Pio and Alpine HU. There would be difference in teh way a HU delivers andit varies with different company HU and models.
