Fine tuning my ICE

Hey all,

I need some help in reinstalling my ICE.
I have following ICE:
Pioneer DEH- 6950 IB Head unit
Pioneer GM X354 4 channel Amp
Kenwood W3003 4ohm 600 watt sub
Pioneer TS-A6987 4 ohm 6"x9" Rear Speakers
Pioneer TS 20 tweeters

All these are already installed but I am not happy with the installation. The guy has installed it with some cheap brand of wires.

Pls help me choose good RCAs and wiring kit for the same. Also the speakers and sub are in individual enclosures. I am planning to go for a good enclosure for sub and install the speaker on a try. Pls suggest.

I have gone through some posts and have found that Scosche's RCA and wiring kit are good.

the problem is , you have bad speakeritis, or fake speakeritis ( definite possiblity ) and earwax liberating treble-itis.

prescription-
lose the tweeters
lose the 6x9's
what about the fronts? judging by the rest of your system, some sort of 6" pioneer in front. lose that too

and most importantly, LOSE THE INSTALLER. You've spent enough money on the wrong things already.

get some proper 6" comps, for the front and 6" coax for the rear ( should cost ~10k)

go to a good installer ( check with the bangy bhpians for recommendations) , and let him unpimp your car

Budget is a big constraint as i recently spend about 35-40 k for FFE and tires upgrade.

my plans were as follows:

1. I guess the amp is outdated. So get a new 2 channel amp only for sub.
2. Get rid of tweeters and get a component for front.
3. Change the RCAs and speaker wiring kit.
4. Get a new enclosure for Existing Sub
5. Transfer the existing speakers to tray.

Pls comment.

Do you feel the amp can be dragged for some more time..??

can some1 pls explain me the disadvantages of 6x9 rear speakers.. till now i did not count that in my upgrade list.

what my guesses were: Punch in sub at higher volume missing because of either outdated amp, wiring or probably the enclosure(currently local made enclosure used)

yes. the 6x9's can stay for some more time. If you are buying new, THEN there is no need to spend on 6x9's , since you have a sub, 6"ers will do fine
you need some good comps , preferably 6" in front. You'll be amazed at the improvement in sound quality
the only thing that needs to go urgently in the car is the TS 20's
everything else will do fine for now. the kit and eveything else is secondary. they cant make bad speakers sound good

a little relief with that reply..
the ts 20 will be out by tomorrow.. but what do i do with them? put them on classified? i paid 2000 for them last year :(

pls suggest me good components.. not expensive, decently priced but do not want to compromise on SQ this time.

sell them back to some installer , so that they can find their next victim

I'd suggest you set apart some more money for the rework(apart from the speaker budget) . I think your power wiring might need some help, and the whole setup in general - cant say for sure , which needs someone to check out personally - i mean, the stuff might all be there , but not put together right. My car used to be like that too once upon a time

what sort of music do you like ?

I'd say, try the new GTO series 6" comps then
a good installer should also be able to help you with this. shop around and do let us know what your options are

I'd say buy new. most installers dont do pure reinstallation work. you might need to buy a thing or two from them
and the 608's are supposed to sound much better than the 607's

greenhorn, I was reading another topic on components where you had explained the comps and coaxs very well.

After reading your other posts, I am planning for something like this:
Existing 6x9s moved to tray and driven by HU.
Existing Sub moved to a properly designed ported box.
Getting 6" 2 Way components for front of which woofer goes to door and tweeter to pillar.
Sub and component are connected by amp.
Changing the RCAs and speaker wires.

Pls tell if a coax sounds better in a box or on a tray?

I probably feel that 608s should come for something around 6k and the RCAs and wiring kit for 2k. How much would a tray and a ported box cost? my budget is around 8-10k, so i guess all this would fit in my budget.
