Looking forward to buy the Asus P320. reviews please

Hi folks,

I have been using a nokia 5300 music edition for about 8 months now.
Though I am satisfied with it but sometimes it does pulls up some dirty
magic tricks out of no where. The speakers go in hibernation out of blue
and then get OK by themselves too.

I havent been to the service centre even once as I dont feel like doing it.

More incline towards buying a new PDA. prefferably with GPS.

Saw this P320 in an electronics mart and simply fell in love with it.

Now I am trying to get a good detailed review (real review from user and
NOT a product launch review)

The thoughts in my mind when considering this PDA :
1. I dont like bulky sets (this is the smallest and lightest PDA as claimed
and even seen in flesh)
2. I travel a lot both for business and pleasure. So would appreciate if it
comes with a GPS.
3. The battery in my Nokia 5300 is decent and I know Pda's need a lot of
charging but dont want it behave like a landline connection which i always
put on charging as soon as i get the slightest glimpse of a charging point.
4. I am not gonna play games on it but atleast it should have decent
processing speeds.
5. I am sure gonna use Wifi and Skype on it. (who doesnt like free calls)
6. FM is not a priority at all. (i know this doesnt have the FM)

if anyone has a P320 and has used it for a reasonable amount of time suggest me whether it would be wise to buy it or not.

Sorry for the longish post but i can only trust T-Bhpians for suggestions

very ncie small windows mobile pda with windows 6.1 mobile. 2 MP with autofocus but no flash. Nice built can take some beating. Screen is similar to HTC touch but you might have to use the stylus for most of the operations. The ok button is very cool one can close the applications just by pressing this button. GPS is pain and there is no inbuilt software for that and what i have seen with all GPS phones is they take time around 50 secs to connect and after that they all work good.

Battery life lasts 1 day with 40 - 50 mins calling, little messaging and other playing around with phone. Sometimes there is a signal problem but that can be a problem with Vodafone too as i encounter problems with my n70 and w200 too.

Overall a nice PDA phone i would suggest it if u can live without a GPS software and 1 day battery backup. For some it might work for 2 days but i use phone on vibrator / ring.

P.S. I dont own the phone but i have used it for more than a week.

Thanks for the reply folks.
My calling patterns are not very regular.
on the weekdays I rarely talk but I do manage to score quite a few hours on the call register.
It is claimed to be having 4.5 hrs of backup, So i expect it to have atleast half of that.
2 hrs will be good enough for me.

any ideas of the discharge rate when using wifi too???

Hey there,

My friend just traded in his beaten around HTC Touch for this fone, paying around Rs.5000 along with his used Touch.

The phone looks good and all, but the Memory is Lousy, and so is the speed!
The OMAP 200mhz processors are totally outdated now, and none of the new devices come with it, BUT... for the price of the P320, i woudl say, it is very good - so thin and nice big touch screen compared to normal phones! much better than all those nokias and other phones!

I am a Windows Mobile lover, and will never use any other phone - the compatibilities and expandibilities are endless on the Windows platform, thou it does have its share of problems - once in while does hang up like our pc's!

motorhead, For the price, it is very good! thats all i can say. and for my friend, the battery easily lasts him the entire day, he puts it on charge every night.

PS: To make your phone a lil bit faster, disable the ASUS Today screen plugin. and use SPB Mobile shell instead.

The P320 looks and feels good n small, but i am not too confident about its reception and battery.

Though i dont use this handset, i have heard that reception is a notch less than comparable wares from Nokia/SE etc. With a 1100mAH battery, i was expecting the P320 to last atleast 2days, but thats not the case. 60-80mts of continous calls drops the battery level quite a lot. P320 does not come with pre loaded maps, and you would have to spend another 3k for making use of GPS for navigation.

Have a look at the Asus P527, almost 13k with preloaded maps, a keypad to boot and maps preloaded.

Thanks for the info Insane Devil and xotiq.

The reason I wanna buy this is because I am simply in love with the way it looks. Nice and compact.

P527 is bigger, bulkier (and to my eyes ugly) and I believe the processor, ram, rom are same so it wud be equally slow or fast.

Regarding GPS maps I believe lots of free services are available which may not be as accurate and wont give voice navigation(i wont need it anyway) as I am just a beginner when it comes to PDA fones. My current fone is a Nokia 5300 which is doing a decent duty.

The price being qouted is 11900 in Pune.
I will be moving to Mumbai next week for the next project and will be there.

Any good places in Mumbai where i can get the fone for as low as I am being qouted online at ebay and other shopping sites.

Yeah, the P527 is a brick....!! But, the P320 is not worth 11900/-, i recently heard a figure of 11k when i was speaking to one of the shops here in BLR.

I mean, once you cross 10-11k, and if you still end up with a 200Mhz cpu and lowly RAM...i think it may be better to spend another 2-3k more and get something faster.
The 200Mhz cpu will drive you crazy if you plan to load satguide or mapking.

Both P320 and P527 are slow phones and can frustrate the user. The phone to look out for is P750

I did buy the phone
Well I havent had been motivated enough to post a detailed review. You can call me lazy if you want to.
My review in brief.
Value for Money 10/10. You cant get more from a phone at this price point. Reliable Non Chinese stuff (ASUS is taiwanese)
Battery Life 7.5/10. The battery life could have been better but my phone does a decent job as I dont talk too often.
Network Connectivity 6/10 There are times when my P320 shows no signal while my colleagues HTC diamond shows 1.
Sound Quality 8.5/10 It is very clear but I still cant give it 10
Speed 8/10 It could have been better but I am not complaining as I got it for very less
Features 9.5/10 They cant have given more at this price. I use all features bluetooth , wifi, GPS.
Screen 8.5/10 Bright colors.
Touch 9/10 I feel its quite good and my friends owning Ipod Touch agree.

Hope this helped. For any Specific query PM me.

Cheers,
MHI

I am quite dissatisfied with the touch screen on Gloffish X500 that I had earlier, how do you rate the touchscreen usage on your P320, i hope its pretty accurate and usable. Main concern remains dialling single handedly. Single handed usage is something thta puts these devices down usually. By the way, did ASUS provide any GPS software/Maps alongwith?
