re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

I voted for Zest:

1) Firstly, it is a TATA and I believe them. Have owned 3 Indicas in my family and we have never found issues with the car, only issue is their ASS wing.
2) Value for money offering
3) Cheap to maintain, service and spares costs are reasonable. The other car I own (which I intend to swap very soon) is Hyundai Accent (will complete 6 years coming April) and I say, TATA is definitely better.
4) Genuine efforts by TATA to get back in the game.
5) Brilliant interiors & royal space. My XETA has a brilliant suspension, where as Indica DLS and Vista VX QJD were not a match to that. However, ZEST from reviews seems to have a better one than Vista.
6) Lastly again it is a TATA - Made in India/ Make in India. I have a soft corner for TATA as Voltas was my first "proper" employer and I know they have better corporate ethics than many others.

Why not the Zest? Just because of the feel good factor, where the i20 beats the Zest comprehensively. Zest clearly feels a generation older than the i20 in spite of the value it offers.
Zest definitely gives feel good factor at much lesser prices and with more features than i20!
Am not able to convince myself to part with 9.6 lacs to buy a hatch!!!

Voted for zest since no other car impressed me more, but if Santafe had a top-end with manual transmission and better equipment my vote would have been for this awesome machine.

Found this on the Net!

I voted for the Zest sometime back and was surprised to find this one.

This is rare and quite laudable!

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

This thread seems to be Tata Dare Devil loyalists vs Elite Royal Challengers!!!. No offense meant

I don't stick to a particular brand just because it is produced or developed in India. We need to evaluate and do justice for every hard earned penny that we spend. I cannot plonk my money in a car just because it is developed in India or vice versa. We are globalized today and I feel there is no scope for bringing in patriotism in this. It doesn't make big sense to me. May be to others, I respect them, its their judgement and opinion.

Back to the topic, Zest is a brilliant package which has made everyone look at Tata like this. Has Tata produced such a car???. Yes it is Tata.

But the major point is the A.S.S and reliability issues of Tata cars, every small niggles that keep creeping in and the A.S.S guys less bother to sort them out, sometime even basic things.

I personally feel, we must talk about the A.S.S when we are evaluating COTY. Without a proper A.S.S, a good car may be comprise only. But some may believe the other school of thought that, A.S.S aspect need not be evaluated for COTY. It is individual perception. We can leave it to them for their own judgement.

I strongly believe that Tata has taken a leap ahead now and started focusing on these ill gotten aspects. Let us wait and watch.

On the other hand, Hyundai has proved itself and now just en-cashing all the returns for the trust they have built all these years.

I have owned cars from both the brands and well know about its pros and cons.

Honestly speaking when I saw the Elite i20, I was like wow wow... fantastic it looks, much better in flesh. But I couldn't experience this with Zest. Just because it is COTY, we are comparing both the cars, otherwise it doesn't make sense in comparing these two cars from different segment. Tata cars are VFM when you buy, so is the poor resale value when you sell. No takers out there in the market for what ever reasons they may have which is not the case with Maruti and Hyundai.

According to me both are good in the way they are meant to be. A big appreciation to Tata and plead to focus more on A.S.S and sort out small niggles.

What people believe is reflected in the sales volumes where Elite i20 scores. Nothing more to say. From my view point, if i were given just two option, ie.., Zest or Elite i20, I will go for the latter though it is over priced.

In between I voted for the Scorpio, I really love the macho man.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

Nominations for me were -

Ei20, Avventura and Zest

I voted for Zest.

My reasons are below
  • A design that simply excels in this compact sedan segment, already received a well deserved award for design - Stance, GC, Wheel base, Shoulder and Leg space, Luggage space, Dashboard design, instrument cluster.
  • Electronically a car that connects with humans much more than any other in the same segment or above. SMS read-out, Voice Command, Speed sensing locking, Instant Milage, BT syncing, Multi drive modes, parking sensor- ICE integation with reverse gear, door locking logic, climate control, door open/close detection, gear shift suggest, etc.
  • A package which currently is not being offered by any one else at comparable price points - DRL, HK ICE, LED Tail lamps, Angel Eye Ring, potent engines in the segment, Alloy across trims, Bridgestone 15' tyres across trims, speed sensing audio volume, auto locking doors, AMC & Extended warranty overall a car which has been conceived meticulously.
  • Improved Quality - Service intervals are yearly except the first one, dealer experience slowly getting positive, I guess, still a long way to but a fair improvement and good direction after Zest launch
  • Very wide concepts across enterprise - HorizonNext, Connect Next and a concentrated effort in working towards it. I think this is important especially to maintain that relations ship with the customer after the deal is done.

Some of my points do not really relate to the Car directly, but the popularity of the Car (which is almost the solo product in TML consumer segment, with Bolt about to launch) is very largely dependent on those.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

My vote goes to the elite i20. Mainly for the diesel asta version. Though i20 is a pricey affair for a hatchback I feel it is justified because of the overall feel good factor that is associated with it.
The close competition with Zest is mainly because of the VFM offering and the brilliant packaging that TATA has got in. Chose i20 after considering all the aspects including the ever responsive A.S.S network of Hyundai.

I have voted for the Honda City(not just because I'm a Honda Fanboy :P ).

But I feel the car has risen to correct the shortcomings of the previous generations and then some. The Looks are the only evolutionary aspect, the rest is all revolutionary. It is a great package and the good sales are a proof of that.

P.S. I'm REALLY surprised to see Zest in the lead! Its a brilliant piece of work by Tata, seems like Bhpians are seeing the change in Tata.

The previous generations of Honda City had superior build quality compared to the present one and I don't find anything which is revolutionary in the segment. The noisy diesel engine is taken straight from the Amaze.

Coming to the features, even the Zest offers a touchscreen system which is not present in the City and there is no push button Start/Stop except in the top end variant. The stock tyre profile is lesser than cars of below segment. In terms of safety too nothing is revolutionary.

The only thing worth mentioning is the space and the refined petrol engine.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

I was disappointed by the photos of the zest when it was launched. It didn't feel like a revolutionary design. I recently realised that I was underestimating the appeal of the design. I saw it in the flesh a few days back and it blew me away! WOW!

I too voted for the Zest, Tata has been building great cars, the only thing lacking was the Reliability and the Service experience. I strongly believe Tata has improved a great deal when it comes to the Service part as well as the reliability.
The Service Centres take up your complaint promptly and the best part is that the Warranty promised is always honoured.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

Garnering nearly 40% of the 2,454 BHPian votes on this thread, the Tata Zest is the Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014

This is the second time that Tata was won the award; the li'l Nano won our inaugural COTY in 2009.

Here's hoping to see more competent, all-rounded products from Tata.

Re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

Good wishes & heartiest congratulations to Tata. The Zest indeed is a competent effort from Tata and the hard work put by them shows in the final product. Though, I did not vote for it, but sincerely wishing that Tata converts these accomplishments and honors to sales numbers.

Also, honestly speaking, wish to see more fierce competition for the coming year's TBHP COTY title.

Regards,
Saket

Congrats to Tata Zest for winning the most prestigious and unbiased award in the Indian automotive industry. Thanks to everybody who participated in this poll and made it possible. Tata's effort to regain their strength in the Indian market is very appreciable.
With so much tech goodies, comfort, styling, frugal diesel coupled with an AMT,

Re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2014. EDIT: Tata Zest it is!

No surprises here!! Tata definitely deserves to take this one home. The improvement from being badged "ye toh taxi banate hain" to finally coming up with an in-house turbocharged petrol engine and an impressive, radical change in the overall feel and look, interior and exterior.
This bold move to challenge its competitors is indeed going to reward Tata. And consumers have definitely taken note of this fantastic end result of hard work and dedication. All the best to Tata Motors and hope they keep up with their brilliant work.
