BMW or Merc sports car

Folks, thank you for helping me with the Q on the GetZ earlier which I gifted to my parents.

Now, I own an Accord and my wife drives an Elantra which is also used as the family second car. I am planning to hand over my Accord to my wife, sell the Elantra and buy a BMW or Merc sports coupe. What options are available to me? Are they sold in India? Or will I have to get them imported? What other makes can I consider?

As of now your only option is to import.
BMW roll out its locally made 3 and 5 series early next year.So if you decide on a BMW then you should wait or you are gonna land up feeling like a fool when its on sale for almost half the price you get it.
Merc sports coupes will have to be imported, i dont see any plans of them being made here.
Other options?Depends on your budget mate. Just remember there is 110% duty to import cars.

Buy the CLS.. A regular family car which looks like the coupe.. And I think Merc sells them in India.

Other than the CLS, only bet is the Merc SLK 200 which is expensive for what it is but has ben homologated. Other option is the Z4 but available only as a 3.0 due to import rules. YOu could also look at the Audi TT if they have any of the older models in stock

CLS available in road no 36 showroom, u ned to order slk it would take one month but slk 200 is around 55-60 lks, and slk 350 was 60-70 lks last time I checked. Recently My cousin got a slk 350 it ws 65+ in hyd. Ask promod in merc showroom if you need anything. Audi im not sure. porsche boxster can be around 50. My bro got a beemer 5 for 49lks it was better than a A6 in everyway. Just my thought.

Once test driven in US and it's a driver's car.
IMHO it have excellent Sporty and family car look.

Sahil, you mean SL65 AMG? This has been there since 2005 and still selling as 07 models.

NOPE....I mean SL'63'AMG
The 55 AMG engines have been discontinued....they are all being/have been replaced by 63AMG now......65AMG has been around for a while,thats a v12.The 63 AMG is V8

Hey Motorman, as most of em said here, its gotta be either a Merc sports car or the Audi TT. Merc has a couple of models amongst them, but IMHO. BMW are the best ...ultimate driving machines! unfortunately no sports coupes are available from them in India. if not the 6 series would be the best bet

so for now, Audi TT , or a Merc sports coupe wud have to do.
If u dont mind going for an import car, mostly sourcing from bombay, then u got more options open. but wouldnt recommend those at all unless u are starving for one.

I like BMW's designs and before sometime I used to swear by Beemers over merc's.

Then I went to the Toronto Autoshow. Checked out various mercs and Beemers.

Just by the touch, feel and look you will know that Merc's are far ahead than beemers when it comes to quality.

maybe beemers make it up with better drivind dynamics and engines.

On the other hand, if you are elow 30 look for the young branded beemer and if you are above 30 Merc may suit you more. I.e going by the image of both the brands.

there are no SL63AMG it is a mistake to tell that.They didn't replace the 5.4 liters V8 supercharged engine in all cars by the new 6.2 liters V8.Some cars keep the 5.4 liters V8 NA or supercharged like the SLK55 AMG 360 hp or 400 hp in Black series edition , the SL55 AMG keep the supercharged V8 5.4 liters but it jump from 500 hp to 517 hp (same power than the SL600) , the G55 AMG keep it too but again power jump from 476 hp to 500hp.The best version of the 5.4 liters engine AMG superchaged is the without doubt the one on the SLR 722 edition with 650 hp.2nd is the engine on the CLK DTM coupé or Roadster with 582 hp and 800Nm.
Next step for the new 6.2 liters V8 AMG is turbocharged version from 570 hp to 707 hp.Will come on the S Class , CL , E class new gen , SL.
