BTW, I have always wondered whether these guys (MPs, MLAs, ministers etc) pay I.Tax like we do. I mean, with perks like these, they should also pay FBT. But then I am sure they would have been clever enough to make themselves exempt from I.T.

N_C you havent included the Rs.2 crore per annum 'Development Fund' that each MP gets to spend as they want in their constituency...my MP built a new road, so I'm quite happy with what he did.

Many MPs in punjab build wide paved roads from the main road to their village. These roads see max 10 vehicles/day mostly going to the guys mansion.

Isnt it justified... when 500+ MPs handle expenses for Indian economy which would be $2000 bn ~ 1,00,00,000 crore rupees in 5 years - India's GDP for 5 years. Of course actual money controlled is larger... I am sure many people here would be earning much more handling much lesser sums of money or power. Its a different matter that politicians are inefficient. So lets not worry about 850 crores, rather make it 8500 crores but ensure that kickbacks of a few percentage points is saved. Even conservative estimates of 1% of above sum is 1,00,000 crores.

Gosh I should be the PM !! MPs surely would love me...
