Default Call from TATA for Nano survey

Got a call from a person identifying himself as working for Tata motors in Ahmedabad and saying that he is doing a survey for Nano lauch.

The call was from +91-7940-211600.

He knew my name. He then asked me what car I have and I responded. He then asked me what is my car's number, which is when I asked him from where he got my number, on which he just hung up.

What is the survey about - beats me!

Anyone else got this call?

@ happywheels, TATA has not even started NANO's production. I am sure this is a hoax call. Don't give any details!!!

Thanks for the response, Chevy_Lover.

thank God I thought of asking him the question before giving out too any more information!

Guys, do take care.

EDIT: I was worried that I might have lost out on a promotional 'FREE' Nano! :-)

Even if it was a survey from Tata, why would they need to know your cars number??!! Sounds very fishy.

TATA has not even built a factory to manufacture the Nano! They are still deciding on the capacity, etc. I was working for an automobile engg. company closely associated with TATA's NANO.

So there is absolutely no question of a survey at this point of time. And one more fact. TATA wil never call anyone, only their DSAs or dealers will do that!

This "social engineering" issue is becoming more rampant each day. Is there some kind of law to report this? Maybe lodge a complaint somewhere?

Fishy. The code does not belong to BSNL. (BSNL Numbers begin with 2. So, the number may be +91-79-40211600.

Which takes us probably to Ahmedabad (I think so - going by the web site).

Else, soembody is faking a CLID. Which is a serious issue.

Even when MSS telephoned and asked if they could pick up the car for service that day, I asked them, "Please confirm that you are Maruti by giving me the chassis or engine number of the car, not the registration".

Hi,
The call to Happy wheels could be from competitors of Tata looking to improve upon Nano taking opinions. May be Bajaj Auto or somebody who is working on low cost cars.

^^Yeah. According to them, I supposedly own an alto and its due for service.
I asked them to better bring "my car" to me.

Default TATA's indeed collecting data but on their website

TATA's have started collecting opinions from public from the day they launched it i.e; Jan 8th.but it is on their website. it is like what do one expects in NANO, how much he is ready to pay for such futures and any other suggestions etc etc
.
this case seems to be a fraud as the guy wants your car number

True; if he was doing a survey he would need to know just what model of car I drive and not details such as registration number and such. What will that information help him with!

Hoax call to identify a car and the owner, track your movements, and add it on their "to steal" list!
