2009 Car purchase details for sale - Shocking !

I recieved this SMS yesterday and was shocked

beyond words. This can happen only in India IMo. Isn't this a crime ?

SMS : 2009 Car Owners Database available. Data quantity 11700 with Name, Mobile no, Car Model, Address, Pur_date etc. Call R.K ADs- 99xxxxxxx.

Well, i received a similar SMS which said they had June 2010 - Mobile phone numbers of people who hold salary account in XYZ Banks! beat that! i didnt bother much. Just deleted the message.

While it is disgusting, I am not shocked- always knew! How else will every car insurance company know my phone number, and call me / sms a million time a month ahead of my insurance's expiry?!

Best Practise note to self- ALWAYS give out the landline number, atleast the sms botheration will cease, and you wont have to bother pulling over to attend a 'sir insurance sir' call the next time!

I shifted to this routine, of giving out my landline number, about an year back & believe me the life is so peaceful. No irritating beeps at an odd hour, in a meeting etc. But once in a while I do get a calls enquiring about personal loans & to which I politely reply. "Thank you but I have so much money that I can buy your bank, including you without batting any eye, now please remove my number from your datbase or you'll hear from my lawyers soon, Remember I have your call centre number."
..Well definately I dont have that kind of money, but it does buy me peace of mind.

@Arkin: Though ph03n!x has answered my usual action, but yes once the girl did ask me If I could take her out for a coffee.. though it was more of a sarcastic remark..
