Re: Woman driver sentenced to 5 years in prison in drunk driving case

"Women don't usually drink much. So, rarely does the reading goes higher than 100 mg. So, they are sent for counselling and a fine of ` 2,000," informs another traffic official.
So are they strict or aren't they? Why should the person's gender and their 'usual' habits matter in a crime?

I'm a teetotaler, and by these idiots' logic I should be able to get drunk, run over some people and get off with a fine & counseling because I 'usually' never drink. Or does that only apply if it's a drunk woman who 'usually' doesn't drink?

Is drinking "knowingly" (duh) and then driving with "blurred sense" a lesser offense than
negligent driving- causing death?

As quoted by Chetan_Rao above,
I don't know how authorities get away with such paradoxical statements all the time!

It's like - We are feminists, we want equality.
Just that the seats reserved for women in the bus should have softer cushions & mirrors on the backs of seats in front of these reserved seats..

It's just 12 years since our dear Salman Khan lightly crushed the "stupidly poor" folks
sending one into a peaceful sleep eternally
& other 4 being let go after being softly punished for sleeping in the wrong place..

Feels like just yesterday!

HYDERABAD: Traffic police have registered cases against 270 persons, including the daughter of an income tax official and an Andhra Pradesh legislator, during drunken driving checks this weekend.

On Saturday night, a special team of the Hyderabad traffic police conducted checks at Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute and registered cases against 10 offenders. According to Begumpet traffic inspector S Sudarshan, who headed the team, one of the offenders was identified as Uppuleti Samata, who was driving a Maruti Swift Dzire (AP 09 CU 9029) from NTR Bhavan side. "On seeing the police, she tried to reverse the car and leave the place. However, our team members intercepted her and when we checked her with breathalyzer the blood alcohol content was found to be 105 mg/100 ml. We have seized the car and registered a case under the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act," the inspector said.

The offender, who is a deputy manager with a telecom MNC in the city, is the daughter of I-T official U Devi Prasad and MLA U Kalpana, YSRCP legislator from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. According to the sources, on getting caught by the police, she tried to get away by dropping names of her parents, but the team booked a case and seized the car, which was registered on her name.

All offenders caught have to attend a counselling session at the Goshamahal Traffic Training Institute and would be produced in court.
