Chevy Beat

Its here. Its here. The White angel is here. Got a timely and decent service from Sundaram Motors on Kasturba Road, Bangalore. I booked the can on 08th Feb. Had the car delivered on 19th. There are absolutely no freebies with the beat.

I am upgrading from the 5 speed M800. I drove a Santro(2006 model) for a month when I got rid of my old one and I feel the beat is a good upgrade to a Santro in terms of ride quality.

I have driven about 200kms in the city over last 2 days and here are my observations:
Pros:
The Beat is built well and Sound insulation if great.
The AC chills!!
Ride quality is just right. Not bumpy like the Santro nor too soft.
Room rear seat
Has a good turning radius.
High dash does not hamper visibility
Gear shift is great
Engine is silent and vibration free at idling.(have to check on the Tachometer to figure if it is on or off)
Loads of cubby holes
Digital dash a pleasure to watch
People stare at the car
People mistake it for a 2door

Cons:
Steering feels heavy(compared to a Santro)
Too much feedback from the steering on bumpy roads.
AC drains power from the engine under 1500 RPM
Engine performance is not up to the mark.
IRVM is useless
Tiny boot

More at first service. If I have missed out something please feel free to ask..

Why do you say engine performance is not upto the mark? Is it underpowered?

I felt the car pulls well enough after 2K rpm. Below that its kind of very sluggish. Please let me know what you feel. since i also have booked the car.

Congrats ! Which model did you buy and how much did it cost you OTR ? Ease on the accelerator pedal till you run her in .

And Beat too gets the 3 year warranty?

Congrats Mafia.

I have the same question - can you elaborate on the 'underpowered' bit?

Also, why do you think the OVRM is 'useless'?

And, good quality pics please - the more the merrier!

Congrats Mafia. I saw couple of Beats in Mumbai when I was there over the weekend. Loved the overall look of this car... very futuristic I must say. I specifically liked its front grill, which I found similar to Cruze. Awaiting some pics from your end now .

Also, do keep us posted on its fuel efficiency figures.

Cheers!
Amit

Congrats man! I expected a 'gangsta with bling' black colour from your handle :-)

Saw a red one with wide tyres today here in BLR. Looked stunning and nearly had an accident rubbernecking!

Congratulations Mafia for your white Beat.
It is good that you got it very fast.
Please mention about the version (PS/LS/LT/LTO)
Do come with more detailed report with photos
Also mention about the accessories if any.

Congrats Mafia on your new BEAT. Do post some pictures of the car, its seats and also fill the boot with some bags just to show how much it will hold. I think that will be better than showing an empty boot and leaving us to guess
