Team-BHP - Michelin XM1+ or Continental CPC2 for OHC Upsize?

Hi Folks, so here is a bit of a dilemma, I am currently running on Michelin XM 175/70/13 OHC 1.5 2003 Model, have probably 1000km to go max on 2 front tyres, rear tyres are in better condition. I know I shouldn't but have routinely done 160 on these tyres, they are ideal at 140, at 160 plus you can feel the car wandering.

So when it came to replacing tyres upsize was definitely on and decided on Michelin XM1+ 195/60/14, I don't particularly fancy buying alloys but apparently these size tyres won't fit on 14 inch rims so have to buy alloys.

The dilemma is Saifee has quoted Rs 4400 firm for the XM1+, while Conti CPC2 is available at Rs 3700. So what do the tyre gurus think, which is better, high speed handling is most important followed by comfort and silence.

I was all set on XM1+but am seeing reviews online giving the Conti CPC2 higher ratings than Michelin Primacy LC, and Energy is a lower grade than Primacy and now CPC2 is available significantly cheaper than XM1+. So CPC2 should be a no brainer?

Conti without a doubt. It's waay better than the XM1+. And when you consider the price, it's a no brainer.

Comfort will almost equal. However, the CPC2 will be a little bit noisier than the XM1+. This can be solved by playing music in your car upon which you will not notice anything.

I'll check with my local dealer if he can arrange Maxxis MA Z1.

What other tyre options do i have in 15" in 195/50 R15 and 195/55 R15 for ~4K (yes budget increased a lil)

Thanks Nikhil, a little bit more noise doesn't matter, ohc is not exactly the quietest car as long as the handling at high speeds and aquaplaning is good.

Forum consensus was on the XM1+ for a longish time but I guess the contis change things a bit, and their with their decent pricing seals the deal, shouldn't Michelin be responding to this, most folks will now go for conti then.

Look at Maxxis or other grey market options. None of the officially present companies will give you that size under 4k.

Michelin is still stuck on their 'premium' horse Raul. I don't see them changing their strategy any time soon. Add to that poor marketing by Continental and apart from the forum, they really aren't much of a threat as of yet.

Are Maxxis good ?? I dont want tires to be noisy . What should be budget then if not 4k ? How much more ??

Maxxis are good just pray you can get them for good price in your budget.

Well you can get Imported Bridgestone for way less in that size :D

Recently bought Bridgestone Turanza 195 R15 for 4500/tyre with B/W

So i guess CPC2 & something from Yoko must be in that category.

Thanks Ishan, that settles it then. Both tyre gurus Iraghava and Nikhil have weighed in and given a thumbs up for the Conti CPC2 without reservations.

I guess Michelin need to rethink the pricing of the XM1+. Thanks guys.

No idea of Road noise as i have music on all the time. Yet to test them on wet roads.
