M&M's Thar was one of the most anticipated launches recently. On Dec 21st, it was exactly one year after the Thar hit roads, and drove through the hearts of Jeep enthusiasts.

So, Dec 21'st, 2011 was Thar's B'Day, its very FIRST B'Day.

What do you do when its the B Day of your near and dear? You give 'em the best day as you possibly can. And this is exactly what a small group of Jeepers from Wayanad did. We gave Thar a deserving B'Day!. If there is one person who can organize an event like this in Wayand, its Jeep Captain. Along with Mahindras Adventure Team, a group of home town jeepers, we organised an event, celebrating Mahindra Thar's 1st B'Day.



Location: Royal Palm Resort, Kalpetta
Time: 11:00AM appox
Trail: Along the estates around Mepadi, and Chembra to the Forest, near to Nilambur. All credit to Aju for planning the trail, just one day back!.



Its a cold Wednesday morning, and Jeeps start coming in, with drivers filled with excitement.










Thar's lined up!. Its always a sight to see capable machines together!











This ones from M&M. Fitted with AC, the Mahindra way!




Mahindra Adventure T-Shirts, Calenders, and Bags Arrive.




We change into the T's and the Jeeps get adorned with Mahindra Adventure Stickers.






After which, Thar owners pose infront of their Machines, and we line up to leave.

This usually used to be an obstacle in the monsoon, but now, a piece of cake, even for a 2WD.






The roads start to get super steep and bad, and the Jeepers, start to sport a grin..








Thar says, give me more!!..






Again, this used to be a pretty good obstacle, during the monsoons, with Jeeps needing snorkel to pass through. But, now.. with rains far away, its a piece of cake for the Thar.















During monsoons, one usually needed MT or atleast AT tyres to climb up. Unfortunately, it all gets too easy... :(

After which, we take a break off road..









And, proceed again to where Thar really belongs!.

On the way, there were two breakdowns. Not really breakdowns, but slowdowns..

1. My 540, which overheated, and needed some time to cool down.





2. Effects of riding the clutch with 4WD engaged - smoked!!..

We were lucky that it was not a complete breakdown.

Perhaps in the history of Indian automotive history this is the first time where lovers of a brand have come together to celebrate the birthday of thier beloved vehicles collectively!! This is sheer passion and Shibu is not simply know as Jeep Captain- He lives like one!!Thanks to Shibu and all others who made it for the celebration. Also thank Vinay Thomas who cancelled personal appointment in Delhi for this event. My colleague S. Bharinidharan was there to represent Mahindra on just one request, thanks to him too!! I couldnt make it as i was busy preparing for Royal escape expedition and getting prepared Thar Expedition concept to be displayed at Auto Expo tomorrow.Thar is cult in making. Next year we look forward to celebrate it even better and in even large numbers!! Long live the THAR!! :-)

Definitely an unexpected and well deserving first Birthday for the Thar.
So many of them together driving around must be a treat.

Mahindra bosses should be tweeted on this if they have not already been, will speed up the upgrades.

Big question is...How does Shibu manage it????

So many places at one time doing so may things, how is it possible??

After which, only some enthusiastic Jeeps drove forward, to the 1st real obstacle. A steep incline, with loose mud. With HT tyres on most Thar's, it was worth the effort!
