Rakshabandhan OTR

We from KOLKATA OFFROADERS had May day otr, Valentines day otr, Fifa world cup final day Otr, so why not a Rakshabandhan OTR?

The result was we had approximately 50% less participants!

So less participants means less fun? Absolutely no! We had a blast!

The destination was again selected as Pandua. This site never disappoints. Every time we find out new obstacles. Today's fun part was, obstacles with slush!

As-usual the OTR was conducted under the guidance of Sir Uday Bhan Singh. We are blessed to have him as our mentor.

Special thanks to Adhiraj Da, Bhpian 1100D, Kaustav, Sounak, Rivu for their flawless marshaling, spotting and recoveries.

At the end i had some fun with my Etios too on the slush!
Though it got bogged down once in the Sand and had to be recovered by winching it out but it was fun.

The first OTR of 2019.

This time also we chose Pandua as the spot to go off the road. This is one place which amaze us every time with new challenges and obstacles.

Finding new paths for the trail drive in the first half was fun and on the second part we took over the obstacles.

So 14 4WD's were all set to flirt with the dirt on a winter Sunday morning. The weather was amazing, the track was challenging and our suv's were capable!

And as we tell every-time, we are blessed to have Sir Uday Bhan Singh as our mentor.

First OTR of 2020

Date- 19.01.2020

Place- Pandua

Duration of the OTR - 10 am to 2-30 pm.

This is the first OTR where i took my Duster AWD.
Most of the pics are clicked by Bhpian Soumiksett. He was the co-passenger in my car and did a fantastic job in clicking the action pics.

When the break-over angle is not sufficient!



In these types of obstacles, I was missing the articulation of a body on frame suv! In monocoque crossovers the wheels get airborne more easily. My Duster's right rear wheel was airborne.

Once again the break-over angle was not sufficient.





The tow hook provided by Renault is very small. Normal shackles were not fitting in. So we had to look for a makeshift arrangement.

Great pictures. It looks like a really fun event. I wish we had events like this in Bangalore. It must've felt great to put your rides into action, where they belong.

There is so much offroad potential here. We need more events and networking opportunities. There is a huge community to tap into.

Hey suneel, there are a number of groups in Bangalore with whom you can offroad. I had a similar problem when I shifted to Blr in 2018, when I was not able to connect to these like minded offroaders. Now things are better

There is an event this Saturday infact which I will be missing out on unfortunately. You can check with the contacts if you can still join if you like.

Thanks for the information. I did hear about this one event, but sadly I will be out of town that weekend as well. Hopefully I can join in on the next one.

There is a small OTR event this Sunday near Kanakpura. You may join if available

Had an OTR at Harinkhola on 4th Oct with Kolkata Offroaders.

During monsoon the Damodar river bed at Harinkhola is filled with white Kash flowers and the track is very tricky. Its a mixture of sand and slush. Its more like a trail with lesser obstacles. But the trail is not an easy one. One cannot return back going mid way. The soil is on the softer side, so chances of damaging a car by an underbelly hit is less.

At one place the water level came up till the height of the Dusters bonnet! But the stretch was short and the car made it easily. But still wading through muddy water is always scary in cars with so much electronics. Thankfully no cars had any issues.

This time we had cars like Fortuner, Pajero SFX, Pajero Sport, Scorpio 4x4, Thar, Duster AWD and the old Jeeps.

I was in my friends Duster AWD, as my Duster is at service center for some work. I drove the Duster on the trail for 90% of the time, as this was the first otr for my friend (Bhpian Burnout). So he wanted to take a hang of it first, before trying his hand from the next OTR.

The place was super scenic and we were mesmerized by the beauty of the place. I so much missed my red Duster to click it, at this time in this location.

My learning from this OTR- On deep slush, I wanted to steer out the Duster at a very low pace. The car slipped and got bogged down. Had to winch it out. While returning on the same track, I maintained momentum & kept the steering wheel straight. It came out without any fuss. In the beginning I was afraid of underbelly hits. But later when I gauged the soil, I was much more confident, even if the car scraps, there wont be any damage.

Spotted a couple of snakes in a close proximity and it was scary. So getting out of the car was always scary. We were super cautions and were revving the cars before coming out. These places are generally infested with snakes.
