OTR: NCR, 25th Apr 2009

We had short and sweet OTR on 25th Apr 2009. We started early morning at 5.45 A.M. from the DLF Golf Course and drove around in Behrampur Village (near Gurgaon) which has a very good mix of terrain. We got back at 8.45 A.M. as it starts getting very hot.

The OTR was mainly organized to test my newly restored MM550. The following people participated:

a) Rahul Roy (Gurkha)
b) Amit (MM540)
c) Sarvinder (WillysMB)
d) Myself (MM550)
Rahul drove specially from Gzb, all the way across NCR.

Since it was my MM550's first OTR certain issues were identified (that need to be fixed before the next OTR):
- 4L gear kept slipping back to neutral. While negotiating some obstacles, my one hand was alway on the 4x4 lever to keep it from slipping. On the dragon's back while coming down in 1st & 4L, Amit held the gear in position while i steered the jeep down the winding sandy descent.
- Minor clutch problem (required double cutch action while engaging 1st), needs to be fixed.
- The leaf springs that were earlier flattened to improve the ride actually caused major ground clearance problems. Will need to raise them back!

Overall, my jeep performed well. Got stuck in one place, where Amit had to tow me out. Everyone else also got a lot of action. I'll let the pics do the talking...(next post)

Cheers!

OTR pics - Set 1

Moral of the Story: Turning the wheels while they're airborne won't help change the direction of the Jeep.

Sarvinder's MB was pulled down from the rear by Amit's MM540.

Nice pics (td).. specially the first set, smile on Sarvinder jis face says it all..

Your 550 is done real nice. GC is one of the main requirment for offroad. Along with spring arch the original sandgrip tyres used by army give a good hight to 550 whereas the radials eatup a bit of GC. I hope your radials are 235x75 and not 235x70. You are with the best gang to try out your jeeps first OTR.

The Gurkha looks deadly. Looking forward to more pics..

Thanks Preet for posting this on TBHP!

We had lot of fun. For the first time I drove any other 4x4 besides Gurkha, it was Amits 540, the blue jeep.

We had lot of fun other than that my Yoko Geo got punctured, thankfully I had the puncture repair kit which saved the day.

Amit also drove my Gurkha and guess he had the same kind of experience which Samurai had earlier with his cousin's Gurkha.
