Sudev this news has made my day.. I saw it on tv too. I can't think how could this be due to Jaipur fire as almost only 10kms away (in north direction)we didn't even felt the smell or smoke then how could it effect Delhi. Also the wind direction for first two days was towards south and then west, whereas Delhi is in North..

Think positive and enjoy the hill station weather..

Subaru Forestor is a good SUV and quite capable with permanent LSD in action. Hugely stable at high speed highway drive. Sad that GM discountnued it.

Had to return early from the trailblazing trip because my daughter felt unwell. A couple of introductory pics from my camera till everyone else piles in.

This guy almost beached himself on the central hump. The front right tyre is in air

Yeah this is the way to do this easy trench cross

Forestor made it with careful handling. Lovely articulation.

Okay we agree that Kevin's $x2 Safari has better articulation. See the front and rear wheel difference between wheel arc and tyre

No problem for this Scorpio

CRV is no slouch. Okay it had to guided and had to do it with a bump on underside.

This captures the reason of all the drama here.

We had total of 24 SUV's plus two ATV's
It looked a bit crowded at the start but then three groups were formed to do different challenges. This meant unhurried time for every one to attempt each challenge. While one person attempted the others could see what was good or bad and plan their moves accordingly.
We started promptly at 1000hrs outside DLF Golf Club Gurgaon. A ten minute briefing and then we convoyed to the start of off road trail. Some confusion when all members of convoy did not turn off. But soon enough caught up.

Next came steep down slope, though it was cemented surface but still interesting slope angle. Each one was let in after a gap of two minutes. Objective was to go down hill without touching brakes. Use of engine braking and using Low ratios.
Half way down you had to stop. Reverse up about twenty meters and then continue. It was reported that many could not hold the line when reversing and slipped forward a bit before backing.

Any one of pictures from here?

Here's something that, as a first-timer on this kind of event, left me scratching my head first - can this be climbed?

SUV Xplore - Trail Blazing 2 (Nov 8th 2009)-dsc07455k120.jpg

First up was Kevin aboard his 4x2 2.0 TCIC Safari. Lots of drama, dust and smoke, but no joy. A Safari can't do it, can my Scorp?

SUV Xplore - Trail Blazing 2 (Nov 8th 2009)-dsc07457.jpg

Next up, the CR-V. Some wheelspin, and it's at the crest. Oh, ok, so it's got 2.4L petrol power.

Next in line, a 4x2 Scorpio. Went up easily first, but then got stuck.

Next up, my turn. Can my car climb? I've never put a 4x4 through its paces like this before. 4L on 2nd, the car went up like I'd expect it to up a ramp from the basement. Suddenly the wait for this car, the extra money, the trouble taken to procure it, all was worth it. Only at the top did I realise the AC was on!!!

Someone post the pics please.

Here I was a little worried about not being on loose surface with 4L engaged, when on a sharp curve. I suppose a FWD sedan would have done the job pretty well, and it would have been more fun to back up a greater distance. Heck, someone needs reversing practice, come over and park at my house where I do!

Just before the convoy reached "base" there was a small rain water ditch that had deep ruts where the wheels go and there was a bin hump in between. The parking at base was on the other side and every one had to traverse this. The pictures for this have already been posted. Every one was observing how the other guy did this.

At the base convoy was divided in to three - One for the Gypsy's One for Pajero's and Scropio's and the last for the Misc - GV's Forestor's CRV's etc.

The first group went on to do trail driving deeper in to the canyon ending in to a sand (dune?) climb.

The second group went towards a dam with loose and quite steep slope. The third went for the hill climb and cross country traverse to a small lake. SS-Traveller has posted pictures from this hill.

Nice pics SS-Traveller. Sad you couldn't stay on till the end. It would've been great to see you at the lake obstacle!
