OMG!! thats one scary place to drive. Saw the jeep/ford lose control n fall and was wondering why would any sane person drive up that suicidal path...and i can see a lot of them doing it now in these pics, not for me though, thanx but no thanx!

I'll try to pull out the picture. Few years back M Class did the same stretch in reverse gear.

Guys, give me some time to go through my DCIL cd lot.

actually the good ol Jongas might've given it a decent shot. Heard they do impossible slopes in mountain terrain.

@Rudra Sen : do you mean to say rudraji, that a merc went up the incline in reverse gear...?? somehow, that piece of info i find hard to digest... the reverse gear ratio might be high enough to multiply the torque such that it can conquer the climb (even if it's in 4L), but who could drive UP the gradient in reverse..???

Hari singh once drove in a stage of Raid De Himalaya in reverse gear coz all the front ones were broken. He was driving a gypsy, and managed to get 10th position or something like that coz he had to run only the last 4-5kms in reverse gear.

So did I. Sorry, my mistake in putting it down in a wrong way. They didn't do (you can read couldn't) the full stretch but they did a fair bit for M Class promo film. I've seen the film. It's old M Class, not the new one. Still shots, as I mentioned earlier will be here moment I get it from my huge CD lot.

Advantage of reversing up a slope

There are obvious advantages in reversing up a slope.
1. Lower gear
2. The weight of the vehicle is biased downhill.(engine)

Keepin' Jeepin'

Gravity could also be your worst enemy when it comes to downhill driving. If you feel you don't need that much power to go downhill, its a myth ! More power adds to more torque and torque works much better than any breaking system when it comes to climbing down..

Binu balan,

While part of your post is correct : ie, engine braking helps a lot when descending steep inclines - and is infact the better way to do it as opposed to applying the brakes.

The part of it saying that the more torque an engine produces the better it can engine brake - is totally incorrect IMO!

How much torque an engine produces has little to do with its ability to engine brake. That would depend more on gearing, friction within the engine/drivetrain, compression etc
